Fan Mail of the Week

Aaron Zelman at Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership kindly forwarded me an email he received in response to the interview he did with me back in January on Attention Deficit Democracy.  Following is the text of the email – the italicized part is from the email Aaron sent out about the interview:

Interview with James Bovard: One of the leading spokesmen for freedom in America, Bovard has penned numerous books, including Lost Rights, Terrorism and Tyranny and his latest offering, Attention Deficit Democracy (click the link for our special offer!). His sharp wit, profound insights, and meticulous research make all of his works “must-haves” for any freedom-lover’s bookshelf.

I enjoy your gun related programs, but… James Bovard is a paranoid psycho. All government is our enemy? According to my Bible, all government is instituted by God! Does this guy have a clue that we are at war and it’s not unusual to surrender some rights for a time in order to achieve victory? He seems to believe that none of us have the will or courage to stand up for freedom. How many years did this joker serve in the military? If you are going to have guests like him on, at least have someone there who won’t throw him softballs. Or don’t you have the courage to have someone with real knowledge from the administration rip this looser a new one ?

*********

My two cents:

I don’t want to quibble here, but to call me a “paranoid psycho” seems redundant.

I am amused at this gentleman’s notion that truth  – “real knowledge” – comes from the government.

I checked with Aaron and this guy did not buy any copies of the book.

Jerry, I hope you aren’t planning to go quail hunting anytime soon.

If all government is instituted by God, then Saddam Hussein’s government was instituted by God, which makes this person’s support for the Iraq war a tad baffling.

    ROFL, Jerry!

    That’s an excellent point!

I guess it is only governments of which this guy approves that are of divine origin. Which makes sense, since his own political opinions are also divinely revealed.

Jim, they are all out to get you, you know….

I am confident that, as long as everyone continues to trust the government, we will all be safe.
