If people are civil in their emails to me, I am civil in my replies.

Folks don't need to be polite when they write & disagree. I often exchange emails when critics but rarely repost such exchanges on this blog.

Civility does not include the obligation to correct the spelling in the type of fan letters reprinted above.

As a classical liberal, I agree mostly with your views, but you treat those who misunderstand you with contempt. You are better than that.

Not only that, but I have always been wary of people who spell redneck as two separate words.

Wes - thanks - now I understand!

His spelling reminded of a copy editor "fix" on a recent book. I quoted the Roman historian Livy. The copy editor, without asking me, changed it to "Levy." I was perplexed, since as far as I knew, Titus Livius had never even been Briss'ed.

Roam is the Freudian-like slip for the seemingly large - and growing - illiterate and *itinerant* population which we are forced to share this continent with!
