Thanks for the comments on the interview!

Much would be gained by impeachment hearings -- but there need to be some other investigations and smoking guns uncovered probably before formal impeachment is begun.

Anything that undermines faith in the current administration boosts the odds of the survival of freedom.

That Hersh article was excellent - I have forgotten whether I commented on it in the blogs I did last July & August. I have written about some of Hersh's other bombshells. He has earned his enemies in this administration.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I liked the reference to the media's "relative intelligence when they are not writing" and their "wearing knee-pads 24-7".

Excellent interview.

I particularly loved the quote from Julius Caesar. "They are all honourable men".

And Bush swings by congress -what a hoot!

By the way, what is left of the Bush administration to impeach? He has failed in Iraq, failed with his Social Security reform proposals, failed on the WOT. Even the recent climate change talks here in Nairobi were treading water till he leaves office. What is to be gained by impeachment hearings? Is it worth it simply to make the point that the Executive cannot behave in such a manner?

I just wish you had mentioned (as reported on my blog in August 2006) Seymour Hersh's article in the NewYorker magazine, which stated that prior to the start of the war against Hibollah, the Israelis had drawn up, and shared with the US, plans to attack and destroy Hizbolla, who were amassing a huge arsenal of rockets on the Jewish nation’s northern border. The article, which quotes current and former White House officials, alleges that the Bush Administration considered an attack on Hizbolla to be a dry run for a contemplated military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities and that the US Air Force was ordered to help polish up the plan which eventually called for “strategic bombing” or air strikes on civilian infrastructure designed to turn the Lebanese population against the militants. Apparently, this was to provide a pattern for the bombing of Iran with the aim of crippling its nuclear programme and to turn the population against the ruling Mullahs. This seems to be what US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meant when she characterised the conflict as “the birth pangs of a New Middle East”.
