After all the years I have spent sweating over Washington wardrobe choices, it is a relief that I don't need to hire a fashion coach to be properly attired for an Oval Office visit.

...I thought you were up for that award James? No? How 'bout The 10 Most Wanted list? Not yet? Well, look at it this way. You'll never have worry about what to wear after being invited to The White House to have dinner with The Decider et al

Idealism?
Somehow with the sheep-shagging wanker show prevailing, it just don't seem contextual. From weird drunken pop icon paternity battles to reality television, shock jock pogroms, sordid nepotism at the World Bank, Turks threatening to roll out the Hussars and the Toronto Blue Jays in first place in Baseball instead of Cricket, pathos is more in order.

After all, with the straight shootin tootin hee haw el Presidento we got now, Idealism is in cold storage, waiting for his American version of a Pax Brittanica Opium War to stir up enough global antipathy for us former Yankee idealists to last a few Chinese dynasties. Idealism bounces off the leadership of this Government like encyclopedias off a Trailer Park.
Idealism is their Kryptonite.
They don't need no stinkin Idealism.
After all, one needs a brain to develop idealism...it's a cause and effect thing. One does not miss what one never had.

Hey, not to be flirting with disaster...but speaking of missing what one had, anybody for revoking the tax exempt status of a few Religious Universities down south who have been producing Sunbeams for the Unitary Executive? Why stop there, how about a certain Mountain States Fortune 500 Church supporting a certain Presidential Candidate from the Socialist Republic Of Massachusetts too? The Treasury is a wee bit flagged, how bout a little Christian charity? I'm trying to be idealistic here. Work with me.

I guess it is too late to appeal for idealism in this comment thread?

Dirk - You are not in danger of having to devour the Buick, though I am sure you could sell a lot of tickets (esp. in Utah) for such a show.

If this is a Republic, I'll eat my 55 Buick.

What we have here is a Kitty Genovese Story on a Continental Scale. For those who forgot, she was the young Queens woman who was stalked, attacked and murdered while her neighbors watched or ignored it. Many said "we didn't think we could do anything about it" or "someone else would deal with it" and the psychologists of the time pronounced them victims just like Kitty..... Victims of a too large and violent society that dispersed or subsumed personal responsibility.
The society aint got smaller nor less violent than it was in 64.

It's nice that we can have a disease for every action or inaction but really now, lets call a mook a mook. It seems there is a limit to militaries and the sizes of a Republic and this here outfit led by Naploneon Lite and his stinty Talleyrand have exceeded it.

Why worry though, we just need a proper State Religion to go along with the Leadership. With this corn-ethanol frenzy aborning , my vote is for a good old fashioned Mayan Death Cult. In Victims We Trust.

It always amazes me that Americans assume they are not oppressed, that theirs is a land of freedom and opportunity when the facts dictate otherwise. When politicians can gerrymander districts to ensure they get back into congress; when the executive acts with impunity to deter dissent; when propaganda replaces cogent discussion of issues; when the preservation of an illusion of security (or social order) supercedes the rights of individuals; when the constitution becomes a tool of expediency that can be ignored when it becomes inconvenient; when the media becomes little more than a megaphone for the powerful; when indoctrination replaces education; when the citizens are reduced to subjects
...these are the hallmarks of dictatorship and tyranny. Of course, you do not have it nearly as bad as others on the planet, but you are firmly on that slippery slope.
