Jim,
I was at a 50th birthday party for a West Point alum /retired officer who'd gone back into family business and asked his West Point buddies if they'd ever heard of Forrest and NONE of them had. I don't think they learned a single blessed thing from Viet Nam.....all this armament and technology providing safe comfort and an over-confidence. We established ourselves a Republic based upon guerilla action in hostile local terrain against an occupier and grow ourselves a military that thinks these things do not happen anymore and can be
solved by a few Daisycutters. Amazing.

I'm not convinced that Forrests reputation for rebel ebonics is fully accurate, I've read a few of his prepared remarks nd they are quite literate. Regardless of that, what we need is men literate in insurgent campaigns if we continue to think we are required to be BIG DADDY to the world while tanking ourselves internally.

Dirk, I haven't been to Memphis since...,???? Maybe since passing through their in the middle of the night & stopping at the Trailways Bus station early in the last century.

I have read a couple recent Forrest biographies and they concluded that he got a bum rap on Fort Pillow.

As far as having a Forrest in Iraq - I can't imagine the NeoCons in the Pentagon would have ever permitted the appointment of a commander who would have scored as Forrest likely would have done on the Verbal SATs. (But he whipped wagonloads of smart-ass Yankee officers just the same)

Bovard, ...You should see the disgraceful state of Forrest Park (near the great and romantically primitive Sun Studios in Memphis. Downed branches, long grass and a populace that is apparently squeamish about "That Devil Forrest's " politically incorrect Fort Pillow assault. This , despite his emotionally rich, humble and honest reconciliation speech and kiss on the cheek of a black woman in 1867, a hundert yars before the
Civil Rights era. If the nitwits had a Forrest in Iraq, the ransackers, looters and "insurgents" would have been a lot less bold than they have been....He was the first 4th generation war strategist.

Dirk - thank goodness someone remembers good ol' Nathan Bedford Forrest!

If the wizards in Richmond had had the courage to give him command, Sherman's march might have turned into a rout back across the Ohio River.

Too bad that most of the people who are supposed to be professional don't seem to have the Bedford Forrest gumption for a fight.

What is truly remarkable about the reluctance to bust ugly with a demon stink eye on the current ...ehh...ah yes, "politics" is that the public is like a big-busted Shemale strutting around with a large strap-on called "be nice" whilst wearing a crinoline dress adorned with a flag pin. I think the clinical description of it is "cognitive dissonance".

The liesuretariet insists on maintaining some kind counterfeit moral compass while reading back issues of Screw Magazine sandwiched in a cover from a 1959 Ladies Home Journal. We could call it dishonesty if it were not for the minor complication of dishonesty being the new honest.

We send virginal reformers and populists into that new tenth ring of purgatory called the Washington Beltway only to find them, a few sessions of Congress later ...hunkered down in a murky bar between a greased lobbyist on one side and a swarthy arms merchant on the other whilst engaged in a moon-eyed discussion concerning mineral rights with an Asian Steppe Dictator. Gosh but embezzlement, lying, torture, bribery, bunko, armed intervention and check-kiting is somebody else's problem. We've got smaller fish to fry like say a Coffee-tasting junket to Colombia or a Museum of Cannibalism in Elko.

What this anti-war campaign needs is a cross between Nathan Bedford Forrest, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, the old Mort Sahl, Attila the Hun and John Brown if John Brown had a sense of humor instead of a sense of Christian Mayhem. "Hillary tough on Obama"....hheeeeehaww. If somebody simply spoke truth to these Power Smack-heads, a large contingent of the public, in all likelihood
would get behind them. Then again, with this sensation-addicted bunch, it all might just be pissing into the Typhoon because with Hillary telling the public she'd turn Tehran into Carthage on a sacharine morning show, it would appear that the viewing audience has been willingly shanghaied on the Death Train, singing melancholy songs of woe.

The Brothers of the Book done let the barrel fire get a tad too hot and it's melting the siding on the doublewide and we still like to think we're the Beav.
And they insist Pagans are primitive.

Ron Paul is likely too well along toward retirement for this heavy lifting but the least he could do is locate a Dirty Harry someplace and turn him loose.

Advertisements against these filthy war profiteers cheapens the issue, puts it on a par with choosing Snapple or Tang.

What we need are some professionals.

Love,
Jenny Lind

I have seen several excellent ads in the past from different independent sources. It would be easy and way more successful if the sources would summitt their commercials for competition, as well as the Paul campaign, and let the members of the campaign be judges. But if ifs and buts were candy and nuts...
