The ongoing shame and disappointment of Modern America is that our manifold successes in the realm of reality have been subsumed by the simulacrum of a culture..the vicarious agora of our consumer culture print and broadcast media on the one hand and the corrupt and parasitical government masquerading as popular sovereignty....on the other hand. If the lapsed Republic were as good as it likes to talk about being...and largely is on a one on one basis...we might return to the checkered but beneficial path we once disinterestedly but determinedly trod.

There are many realities in this polygonal land but two are controlling: The first and better one is the independent lives of our citizens engaged in the possibilities of liberty and conversation. The other potemkin reality is the one we see on the screen or hear about on the radio or read about in our denatured print media. It's about time we take down the facades and start mucking out the ghetto behind...a ghetto that is far more beautiful no matter how tattered it appears.

Speed and bullshit are distracting us

Perhaps the definition of politician should be changed from "a person actively engaged in politics" to "one who regularly deceives in order to gain or maintain control over others."

"...The guards opened fire, but it was too late.” In reality, the guards did not fire because they were prohibited from having loaded weapons..." (Warring and Lying)

This quote is about the defenseless Marine barracks in Beirut Lebanon (The Root.) It reminds me of the antigun culture at the time in America was so common and widespread even Marines temporarily stationed in a Terrorist capital of the world were disarmed by denying them either ammo or the permission to defend themselves from attack. We have Woodrow Wilson to thank for most of our troubles.

'Warring and Lying' is an old essay that always needs to be retold but never seems to create enough change.

WW I was the war that would end all wars. Did Wilson say that ? If he did it may have been the biggest lie of them all. America's entrance into the war in Europe led to Germany's defeat, and created WW II, The Cold War, Korea, Viet Nam and the War on Terror. Germany's defeat led to the Versailles Treaty which led to Hitler, the Holocaust, Israel, the War on Terror, the WTC bombing, the Iraq invasion and occupation, record high gasoline prices and our current economic reccession.

During WW I, and because of America's involvement in WW I, the Russian monarchy collapsed and led to the rise of communism in Russia, China, Viet Nam and many other countries. WW II killed over 50 million, China's communist experiment may have killed another 50 million (the same for Russia under Stalin).

Thanks to Woodrow Wilson (the son of a Protestant Minister) for being so honest.

I learned this stuff from reading a collection of essays published by The Future of Freedom Foundation (WWW.FFF.Org). The name of the publication is 'The Failure of America's Foreign Wars'

We like the truth; we prefer the truth. We hate liars but most of us will lie. Because we all lie we end up tolerating it when politicians lie. If we only knew how deadly and expensive some lies can be.
