One needs either a homogeneous people within a well-defined self-supporting resource geography surrounded by others similar to it or......a large continent whose native population was decimated by disease...in order to have any success at democracy. In as much as there are no used continents (mythologized as "virginal" decades later) it seems all these democracy movements are a cover for malicious intent. Marx said religion is the opiate of the masses, the Soviets and chinese proved socialism is the rot-gut Vodka of the people and American commercial democracy...Crusading Capitalism is proving itself to be the Methamphetamines of the people. It's more a matter that the Medieval Ages have never been left and that the Feudalism of the Landed Lords is being replaced by the Feudalism of the Global Corporation. Democracy requires discourse and this people we have become wouldn't know discourse if it hit them up side the head like a dump truck full of Websters Dictionarys. Democratization at gunpoint is a new kind of Theology of Liberation where moon-eyed dreamy nuns have been replaced by Corporate Boards with all the ethics and and none of the soul of the Russian Oligarchy.
