As someone who has been in the military for almost 24 years, and have been able to be employed during tough times, I can understand how it is with the government. Today, teh military is more of a welfare system than a place for poeple to defend their country. There is too much of what I get and how it takes care of me. Not enough of what I can do for my country and be proud to serve. The military has also turned into a political state and we are too worried aobut what we do or how we do it. We are suppose to be warriors, but get critized for thinking, saying, or acting as such.

This article also shows how America is failing because of the increasing size of the government and the increases in benefits and hand-outs given.

I enjoyed reading this article and it makes me proud to be someone who wants to work in the private sector and do my best not to become dependant on the government for my welfare.

Jim, right on. I have to admit I help to contribute to this dependency, being employed by The Circus that Never Leaves Town(AKA Post Office) It's amazing the benefits I received, and some of my fellow comrades actually piss and moan about it. I've long advocated for the government to get out of the mail biz, and believe me, I get yelled at and called all sorts of names.

I must tell you another pet peeve of mine is when someone says that they are getting their drugs and benefits for free. As been said many times, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Enjoying my vacation, and causing trouble with my family and friends continuing to promote freedom and liberty.

As remarkable as it may seem, it would appear that we now have far more to fear from our Standing Government than we do the Standing Army that this government favors.

Chief spear carrier for our self-besotted government is the modern media, a kind of body-snatched Fourth Estate that spends its time either claiming it isn't responsible for educating the public or miseducating the public with silence on the issues that most effect us. The Military-Industrial Complex Frankenstein has found its bride in the Media-Political Complex. Sensationalism, Fear, Sentimentalism and Voyeurism are the new armor against individual liberty and it is quite apparent that the crypto-oligarchy likes the dysfunction they have crafted.

The public, interestingly enough is still generously filled with citizens who understand the problems afoot and have a vague realization of what must be done to avert the disaster our self-loving, self-deceiving leadership is so very intent upon achieving. At some point, the public may finally discover that their government is beyond redemption and that the Fourth Estate has abandoned its post. Unfortunately, it would appear that dependency will do for now and so the predatory, consumptive and counter-intuitive government of the lapsed Republic will continue to wreak blind lusty havoc with a smile.

This pooching brought to you by a generation that has raised masturbation to the level of a spectator sport.

Well said Jim. Most of the older people I meet believe that government exists primarily for the purpose of providing them with checks and subsidized services. The mention of limiting the state is almost an exercise in futility since it usually results in either glazed eyes or fearful expressions. Yes, as the ship lists dangerously to one side the captain and his officers make no mention of impending danger.
