Well said sir, it is staggering that more people do not realize the implication of government sponsored torture.

I think it was Thomas Jefferson that said: "In questions of power then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the constitution"

I read the Neocon's attempt to excuse away our government's contempt for civil liberties by calling Mr Bovard "self hating". I laughed out loud at his assertions. This man worships the State and all its trappings of power. He likened Abu Ghraib to a college frat hazing party! Just tell that to the families of recent casualities of Fraternity hazing. Hes likely to get beat down. He tries to come off as some kind George Will and confuses rightful and justified critism of our self hating government and his own self loathing.
Honestly I cannot understand how somehow who thinks like that wants to live in a free society or whats left of a free society. I think the neocon would be more comfortable in the former East Germany of the Stasi.

Watching the snippets of news concerning protestors that leak out of the RNC reporting underscores the fact that this government is one of the most authoritarian and paranoid in the lapsed-Republic's history. The fact that they can, at will and without questioning arrest private citizens gathered on private property to discuss the exercise of their right of free speech via protesting
should disabuse anyone of the silly cant that the torture issue is one of "a few bad apples". The Republican Party, such as it is exhibits all the charms of a Meth Head...scheming continuously while hepped up on a serious jag of dread.

It's nice that since the Democrat Party lost it's urban and labor constituency in a polled move to some kind of mythical center that the GOP could make similar moves and in the process, forsake any kind of serious intelligence for the kind of thinking most often seen during a drinking bout in the doublewide park of your choice. Democrats losing their guts and Republicans losing their heads and what do we get but a pack of gutless wonders.

Torture goes with all wars but with this "war" it was "imbedded" from the start so the torture was much worse. The original phrase about the US better not lose a war because of our extralegal way of treating the losers is originates with the Anton Dostler trial. That is where we convicted and sentenced a German General to death for dealing with known spies that were in civilian clothing. Further the prosecuter perjered himself at Nuremburg by stating that they were in military uniform. We will only learn if we prosecute these even worse scoundrels to the same level as we did the Germans. As long as W figures his dads buddies will keep him out of it, he will stay smug.
