Jean - thanks for the kind words.

Barr made excellent points in his FFF presentation. I am glad to see his views getting far more attention than they have in previous years.

On the change motif - I expect the stock market retreat will double the number of times we hear that promise.

Hello Jim. Great book BTW, just like the rest of them. I was looking at the DVD's from last year's conference FFF sponsored, and I saw the speech given by Bob Barr. He said something that intrigue me.

He said basically, that when one adminstration of one party grabs more power, the other party just piggybacks on it, and expands it further for what ever reason. Is it no wonder Obama isn't taking about repealing the Patriot Act? Hell, he even supports continued wiretapping, and giving the telecoms immunity.
It's sickening to me to hear these jokes talk about change, when all the change you will have will be in your pocket, and there will not be much jingling there. Best wishes

Henry - I fear that Big Government wants to be more than Big Brother - wants to be [redacted] and [redacted] and [redacted].

If I was deft with the software, I would insert the "Dueling Banjos" theme music here.

Dirk, I'm glad the NYTimes at least highlighted the role of US arms deals in subverting peace.

Luckily, everything will be fixed after the election.

In answer to your final question (“What are the prospects for the survival of American liberty from an endless war against an elusive, often ill-defined enemy?”), I think Orwell gave us a clue: "Bernstein! Bernstein! He's the enemy. He's everywhere. He must be stopped if it takes forever. Eeeee...Lawrence runs into the mist.

Excellent introduction to Terrorism and Tryranny.

Americans in the recent past generally nominate and elect leaders who praise and pander, not those who criticize and critique, therefore the national government has evolved with a tremendous unrestricted appetite to control more and more, exploiting the 9/11 terrorist criminal act by individuals, not governments while the American people seem to be on the sidelines like spectators instead of particpants in their government's momentous decisions.

Is big government becoming big brother?

A Front page article in the N.Y. Times described a huge upswing in Arms Sales by U.S. government and private interests worldwide during the administration of GW Bush. This Georgian debacle, if properly exposed would provide a sterling lesson in why U.S. Belligerence in service to the Munitions industry is so counter-productive beyond a few Russian Oligarchs taking delivery of some brand spanking new Humvees as war loot.

The combined efforts of militarism, security and neo-con crusading are conspiring to create a perfect storm of world war....all aided and abetted by the latest of American Arms. This is a farrago of stunningly epic proportions and there is no doubt in my mind that it will end badly and with the complicity of both political parties.

The more these bureaucrats speak of anti-terrorism, war to protect democracy and security, the less secure, less democratic and more terrified we become.

For a nation that loves Las Vegas as it does, this sure is a poor set of odds we keep hustling.
