Readin’ Ain’t What it Used to Be
Kudos to cartoonists Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman for capturing the demise of reading better than a stack of volumes by contemporary professors and a heap of studies by the National Endowment for the Arts. [Click on the cartoon for a full size version of the Zits cartoon]
Unfortunately, the “experts” respond to this problem by recommending dousing the younger generation with Ritalin….

Give the slackers this day, their daily snark. Not only is a kind of check the boxes brevity required, when the new illiterate actually do engage, it is generally to torch somebody with a snappy comment in order to “agritate” them so the Cliff notes Enforcement Brigade can then watch the
show.
Kids these days….did I say that? Where’s my fiber?

Sad thing is that the “after” cartoon also illustrates how some writers these days compose their masterpieces.
