New Blog Design: Thanks Brandon Snider & WooThemes

Only about half a decade later than I should have done it, here’s a whole new look for this blog.  Thanks to Brandon Snider for working hard since last weekend to get this site rebuilt according to my quirky specifications. (His email address is brandonjsnider-at-hotmail.com in case you’re looking for a savvy blog guy.  He knows WordPress better than I know beer.)

The new look is based on the Canvas theme from Woothemes, a South African company recommended by A.b. Dada, the Chicago t-shirt mogul.

There will be some more tweaking as time goes on.  I welcome suggestions on how this blog can be further upgraded.

    Congratulations! Now, tyrants, beware!

I burst out laughing at your sentence. Not sure if the tyrants these days can read so good…

    Better late than never……………she said.

This is some fancy blog. It seems so spacious and well lit like a penthouse suite in a 5-star hotel.

    Good job!

    And thanks for the link.

Most of the changes were under the hood. The theme was styled to look a lot like the previous one, but a wider main content area and sidebar, darker, larger text, and a few small things. Actually the font in the main content area is the same — Palatino. That seems to be the one font Jim’s computer renders really well.

I created a new database with a non-default prefix for the tables, much longer db password. WordPress version went from 2.8.x to 3.5.1.

You can now reply to specific comments and your reply will be nested inside that comment, up to 5 layers deep, and you can subscribe to threads by email, if you look beneath the “Submit Comment” button.

Tom – a penthouse suite in a 5-star? Dunno – but at least it is not the graphics train wreck that the previous blog was becoming.

    A five-star hotel? Like r.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affaire_Dominique_Strauss-Kahn?

Hey! Nobody is getting screwed here.

    Oops! The link was http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affaire_Dominique_Strauss-Kahn.

Okay, but still – nobody screwed here. This ain’t the Waldorf Astoria.

Nobody is getting screwed here? Does that mean there are no working girls downstairs in the bar?

They’re there – but the same rules as for the old Playboy clubs. All employees must take a vow of chastity.

    Looks great Jim!

Thanks, Bart! Let me know if you have any suggestions on tweaking.

Here’s a suggestion: Tweaking is bad. Don’t do tweaking.

Seriously, though, not gonna say the site needed an upgrade – it’s already full of Bovardesque wit – but even the best of places can benefit from a new coat of paint now and then.

That’s a helluva website. Is it bona fide?

Are you dealing with meth addicts on a routine basis out there?
