I knew that American culture was in trouble, but this New York Times front page article<\/strong><\/a> on the decline of plots in porn movies confirms my deepest fears. <\/p>\n

The Times <\/em>quotes porn actress Savanna Samson, who “said she took her acting seriously and used to prepare studiously for her roles.”
\n\u201cI used to have dialogue,\u201d said Ms. Samson, whose given name is Natalie Oliveros, and who is one of the industry\u2019s biggest stars.
\n\u201cGetting it on in one hardcore scene after another just isn\u2019t as much fun,\u201d she added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Maybe Samson could apply for a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Or maybe New Haven has an opening for its “Shakespeare in the Park” program.<\/p>\n

Porn DVD movies are being displaced by the Internet. A rep from porn-producer Vivid Entertainment told the Times<\/em>: \u201cOn the Internet, the average attention span is three to five minutes. We have to cater to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

I have heard editors say that Internet articles should not be longer than 800 words, because readers do not have a longer attention span. <\/p>\n

Maybe I underestimated the catharsis effect from op-eds. <\/strong><\/p>\n

UPDATE: It was only 2 years ago that the New York Times trumpeted a different crisis<\/a> in porn – the advent of High Definition movie formats that were requiring many actresses to run back to the plastic surgeon:<\/p>\n

Jesse Jane, one of the industry\u2019s biggest stars, plans to go under the knife next month to deal with one side effect of high-definition. The images are so clear that Ms. Jane\u2019s breast implants, from an operation six years ago, can be seen bulging oddly on screen. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m having my breasts redone because of HD,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
