The Internal Revenue Service is perhaps Washington\u2019s ultimate sacred cow. It is the \u201cgoose that lays the golden eggs\u201d for the city\u2019s power and prestige, delivering trillions of dollars to allow politicians to work miracles (or at least get re-elected). The Washington establishment is scrambling to squelch any criticism of the 87,000 new revenooers to be hired thanks to President Joe Biden\u2019s Inflation Reduction Act.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank caterwauled that<\/a> Republicans\u2019 anti-IRS rhetoric is one of the \u201challmarks of authoritarianism\u201d and justified Biden\u2019s condemnation of Republicans for \u201csemi-fascism.\u201d His colleague Joe Davidson fretted that<\/a> \u201cattacks on the IRS\u201d are part of GOP efforts \u201cdelegitimatizing government.\u201d Another WaPo article warned that Republicans are \u201cputting federal workers in danger\u201d by \u201crepeating baseless claims<\/a>\u201d on the IRS.<\/p>\n
