Lame-duck robbery: Democrats rush to spend with just 15 legislative Looting Days left<\/a><\/h1>\n

There are only 15 legislative Looting Days left until a new Congress takes office. Voters last month sent Washington a \u201ccease-and-desist\u201d order by giving Republicans control of the House of Representatives. But congressional Democrats are racing to spend almost $2 trillion more before the clock runs out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Joe Biden spent recent months portraying Republicans as a dire threat to the survival of democracy. But the biggest enemies of democracy nowadays are on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared last week that \u201cwe\u2019re on a good path now<\/a> to get something done.\u201d House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer implored<\/a> his Democratic colleagues: \u201cWe must take full advantage . . . to deliver results for the people.\u201d Except for the people who voted in the most recent election.<\/p>\n

The New York Times hailed lame-duck sessions as \u201ca unique political grace period <\/a>for lawmakers leaving Congress. . . . Re-elected lawmakers may feel freer to act after securing another term.\u201d Freeing representatives from voters\u2019 approval is the new, improved \u201cwill of the people.\u201d Never before has Congress passed a massive omnibus appropriations bill after the control of half of Congress changed parties.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrain wreck\u201d is the kindest term for what Congress will likely produce. The Washington Post reported last week that \u201ccongressional leaders have again waited until deep into the holiday season to assemble must-pass bills \u2014 and they\u2019ve used them as legislative Christmas trees<\/a>, attaching unrelated measures small and large.\u201d<\/p>\n

The secret omnibus bill could be made public any day now. House Republicans were effectively excluded from the negotiations for this monstrosity. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) condemned the \u201ccorrupt tactics\u201d<\/a> behind this bill.<\/p>\n

Democrats are addicted to spending money the government doesn\u2019t have to enact programs American citizens don\u2019t want. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget warned that Congress\u2019 year-end spending rush could enact changes that \u201cadd up to $4.5 trillion to 10-year deficits<\/a> in a worst-case scenario.\u201d<\/p>\n
