Biden buries biggest diversity debacle in American education history<\/a><\/h1>\n

Using schools to forcibly remake society<\/em><\/p>\n

Two weeks ago, President Biden whooped up the 70th<\/sup> anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court decision in a speech at the<\/a> National Museum of African American History and Culture.\u00a0 In his bid to bolster his flagging support from black voters, Biden ignored the biggest education debacle of the past half century while hustling a scheme to raze the remnants of American childhood.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1954, the Supreme Court ruled that \u201cseparate but equal\u201d systems that intentionally segregated students by race violated the 14th<\/sup> amendment. That decision resulted in profound changes in southern states that had created parallel but inferior school systems for blacks, who along with other barriers for learning.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Biden sniped at Republicans and conservatives, claiming, \u00a0\u201cWe have a whole group of people out there trying… to erase history.\u201d But the biggest erasure involves the largest Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity crusade in American history – the forced busing that ravaged many cities and metropolitan areas from the 1970s onwards.<\/p>\n

After its Brown vs. Board of Education ruling, the Supreme Court began rubberstamping court decrees that compelled the busing of children far from home to satisfy constantly changing demands for racial balance in classrooms.\u00a0 Localities and school systems with no history of intentional racial discrimination were commandeered by federal judges who made themselves tinhorn dictators to control every aspect of the classrooms.<\/p>\n

Forced busing was often the equivalent of throwing a bomb into a classroom.<\/strong>\u00a0 In Boston, the National Guard was called out to deal with violence after a federal judge compelled busing between a poor black neighborhood and a working-class Irish neighborhood.\u00a0 Students had to awake long before dawn to catch buses and lost the chance to participate in extracurricular activities in schools far from home.<\/p>\n

The attempt to inflict racial harmony with an iron fist was a disaster far and wide. Forced busing turned schoolchildren into political cannon fodder.\u00a0<\/strong> It resulted in white flight that left many school systems more segregated than before forced busing began.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court ludicrously presumed that black kids needed white classmates in order to learn.\u00a0<\/strong> But some all-black schools such as Washington, D.C.’s Dunbar High School had been paragons of excellence ever since the Reconstruction era. Justice Clarence Thomas groused in 1995, “It never ceases to amaze me<\/a> that the courts are so willing to assume that anything that is predominantly black must be inferior.”<\/p>\n

Biden denounced forced busing in 1977 as a \u201cbankrupt concept<\/a>\u201d but he probably forgot long ago that he opposed the policy.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court\u2019s 1954 decision was spurred in part by the achievement gap between black and white students, a gap that narrowed in the subsequent decades. Since 2001, the federal government has spent hundreds of billions of dollars for policies to close the achievement gap, including No Child Left Behind and Common Core. But the racial achievement gap \u201cis now 30 percent larger<\/a> than it was 35 years ago,\u201d according to Stanford University education professor Linda Darling-Hammond.\u00a0 <\/strong>Biden worsened that gap by approving perpetuating unjustifiable school shutdowns during the Covid pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 According to progressives, the achievement gap proves that politicians need bigger iron fists to forcibly level children\u2019s minds.\u00a0 Biden is trumpeting a policy that would make forced busing look like a Sunday saunter in the park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>In his speech, Biden said he wants to \u201cmake sure preschool is universal [i.e., mandatory] for every three- and four-year-old in America\u201d to reduce the pre-kindergarten achievement gap. In the name of equalizing racial test scores, the government would obliterate another huge swath of American family life. Why not go \u201cfull East German\u201d and formally declare that the state owns all the children?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tennessee ran a massive test of pre-K for low-income families and discovered that it harmed the children. Kids were twice as likely to be diagnosed with learning disabilities, and had worse grades and far more behavioral problems than a control group.\u00a0\u00a0 Forcing young children to prematurely attend academic classes may have \u201ccaused children to develop a hatred<\/a> and rebellious attitude toward school,\u201d Dr. Peter Gray wrote in Psychology Today.<\/p>\n

Would this scheme narrow the achievement gap by stupefying all kids\u2019 minds, producing a mental wasteland that only a social scientist or deranged progressive would cheer<\/strong>? Regardless, corralling and embittering millions of youngsters is a small price for providing free day care for single mothers who vote reliably for Democrats.<\/p>\n

Biden will likely become more desperate and demagogic as his re-election campaign flounders.\u00a0 How far will he pander to placate left-wing zealots who want to use schools to forcibly remake society? \u00a0Americans should distrust any politician who denies the education debacles already committed in the name of equality.<\/strong><\/p>\n
