{"id":273,"date":"2007-03-25T20:22:00","date_gmt":"2007-03-26T01:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/25\/help-washington-dc-choose-a-new-motto\/"},"modified":"2007-03-25T22:39:43","modified_gmt":"2007-03-26T03:39:43","slug":"help-washington-dc-choose-a-new-motto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/25\/help-washington-dc-choose-a-new-motto\/","title":{"rendered":"Help Washington, DC Choose a New Motto!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The District of Columbia is trying to fix its image.\u00a0 Thus, it is spending $150,000 to choose a new motto for the city.\u00a0\u00a0The Washington Post <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/03\/24\/AR2007032400953_pf.html\">reports,<\/a><\/strong> &#8220;Civic leaders say they are looking for more than just a snappy line.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Post<\/em> notes that other states and cities are seeking to rebrand themselves with slogan.\u00a0\u00a0 The state government of New Jersey\u00a0&#8220;recently embraced &#8212; and just as quickly abandoned &#8212; two new slogans: &#8216;We&#8217;ll Win You Over&#8217; and &#8216;Come See for Yourself.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, &#8220;Baltimore recently spent 18 months and about $500,000 on a campaign that resulted in, among other things, a new logo (a sailboat) and a new tag line, &#8216;Get in on It&#8217; &#8212; as in &#8216;get in on a city that has a lot going for it,&#8217; said Nancy Hinds of the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association.&#8221;\u00a0 Hinds&#8217;s explanation is helpful, less people assume that the &#8216;it&#8217; referred to a drug deal or drive-by shooting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But &#8211; back to DC.<\/p>\n<p>It pains me deeply but some people doubt my patriotism.\u00a0\u00a0I see this DC slogan contest as a chance for me to help my country by helping the nation&#8217;s capital boost its image.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the suggestions readers have already posted on the <em>Washington Post<\/em> website:<\/p>\n<p>*Where Some Tourists Come to Die<\/p>\n<p>*Zimbabwe Without the Passport<\/p>\n<p>*Eat here and get shot<\/p>\n<p>*The Most Self-Important City in the World<\/p>\n<p>*Criminals without Prosecution<\/p>\n<p>*Come to DC&#8230;we&#8217;ll build you a stadium<\/p>\n<p>*Leave your guns at home and let our criminals take<br \/>\ncare of you<\/p>\n<p>*Wee Kan Reed<\/p>\n<p>***<br \/>\nOf course, not everyone on the <em>Washington Post<\/em> website favored such slogans.\u00a0 One person lamented, &#8220;There is a lot of hatred on this site. To all you haters, know that we consider the source.
