I was interviewed this morning (pre-coffee, unfortunately) by Press TV <\/strong><\/a>on a provision in a House bill that could make it even easier for presidents to start new war. Here’s their summary of the interview:<\/p>\n

\nThe House Armed Services Committee has expanded the Bush-era “war on terror” bill, with amendments that would allow any president to unilaterally take the country into war. <\/p>\n

Asked about the new extended bill, James Bovard, Policy Advisor for The Future of Freedom Foundation, said “It is not really a law at all. It is more just a grant of arbitrary power from the Congress to the President, and not just Obama but any future president.” <\/p>\n

“This is exactly the type of thing that the founding fathers wanted to avoid,” he told Press TV’s U.S. Desk in an exclusive interview on Thursday. <\/p>\n

Bovard pointed to what he described as an inherent “contradiction” within the new bill, since “laws are supposed to be clear, defined and limited.” <\/p>\n

He also said that since President Barack Obama had found a “pretext” to bomb Libya based on “good intentions,” he clearly did not need any more power. <\/p>\n

U.S. politicians have not “let U.S. laws stand in the way of their foreign policy,” he stated. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
