Sen. Rand Paul<\/strong> was the only senator to vote against confirming James Comey as the new FBI director. \u00a0The final vote was 93 to 1<\/a> – so nobody was crowding Rand on the high ground.<\/p>\n

As the ACLU noted last month<\/a>, “While Comey deserves credit for stopping an illegal spying program in dramatic fashion, he also approved or defended some of the worst abuses of the Bush administration during his time as deputy attorney general. Those included\u00a0torture<\/a><\/span>, warrantless wiretapping, and indefinite detention.”<\/p>\n

Thanks to Rand Paul,\u00a0we will not have to hear for the next 5 years how Comey was unanimously approved by Senate for FBI chief.\u00a0This may be another one of those votes which, in hindsight, many Republicans later wish they had joined Paul.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
