{"id":657,"date":"2009-01-19T11:08:52","date_gmt":"2009-01-19T16:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/?p=657"},"modified":"2009-01-19T11:12:32","modified_gmt":"2009-01-19T16:12:32","slug":"gaza-slaughter-a-product-of-circumstance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/19\/gaza-slaughter-a-product-of-circumstance\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaza Slaughter &#8220;A Product of Circumstance&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/usTopNews\/idUKTRE50I2LU20090119?sp=true\"><strong>announced today<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>that the Palestinian civilians killed by the IDF in Gaza were &#8220;a product of circumstance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Livni recognizes that the carnage may present a public relations problem for the Israeli government: &#8220;These matters will present us with a complicated task &#8230; The consequences, in the context of civilians casualties, are something we have to deal with, among ourselves and in facing the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Livni need worry little about either the U.S. Congress or the bulk of the American media.\u00a0 Her &#8220;product of circumstance&#8221; explanation will be taken as sufficient absolution regardless of how many hundreds of corpses of dead women and children are uncovered in Gaza in the coming days and weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And whatever Rules of Engagement the IDF used will be irrelevant.
