{"id":725,"date":"2009-02-28T13:29:33","date_gmt":"2009-02-28T18:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/?p=725"},"modified":"2009-02-28T13:34:58","modified_gmt":"2009-02-28T18:34:58","slug":"epigrams-from-feeling-your-pain-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/28\/epigrams-from-feeling-your-pain-2000\/","title":{"rendered":"Epigrams from Feeling Your Pain (2000)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3498\/3252381910_ff8354280c_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"157\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The following lines are from<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Feeling-Your-Pain-Government-Clinton-Gore\/dp\/031224052X\">Feeling <\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Feeling-Your-Pain-Government-Clinton-Gore\/dp\/031224052X\"><strong>Your Pain: The Explosion and Abuse of Government Power in the Clinton-Gore Years<\/strong> <\/a>(St. Martin&#8217;s\/Palgrave, 2000):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Those who forget past boondoggles will be perpetually taxed for new boondoggles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The issue is not how much a politician cares but how much power he seeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Clinton exploited and expanded the dictatorial potential of the U.S. presidency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Clinton administration built its &#8220;bridge to the twenty-first century&#8221; by filling every sinkhole along the way with taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Faith in the coercive power of the best and brightest permeated Clinton administration policymaking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Clinton administration consistently acted as if nothing is as dangerous as insufficient government power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Clinton\u2019s attempt to forcibly lift people instead left government in the gutter &#8211; at least in the minds of tens of millions of Americans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The more people government brings to its knees, the fairer society becomes \u2013 simply because government power is the personification of fairness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Clinton recipe for public safety was: if politicians can only frighten enough of the people enough of the time, then everyone will be safe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">FEMA&#8217;s expansion symbolizes the proliferation of acceptable political pretexts for one citizen to stick his hand in another citizen&#8217;s pocket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The only concept of &#8220;disaster&#8221; guiding federal policy now is the horror that politicians may miss a chance to buy themselves more votes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Clinton\u2019s environmental policies were far more effective at demonizing enemies than in protecting citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The principle of government supremacy is Clinton\u2019s clearest legacy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Clinton\u2019s tax policy exemplified his &#8220;feeling your pain&#8221; public policy: the only pains that don\u2019t count are those inflicted by the government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For scores of millions of Americans, Clinton\u2019s &#8220;caring&#8221; was more important than his lying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The lies that Clinton got away with were far more important than the ones on which he was caught.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The power a politician acquires for government will survive long after his photo opportunities have faded<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The better that people understand what Clinton did in office, the greater the nation\u2019s chances for political recovery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following lines are from Feeling Your Pain: The Explosion and Abuse of Government Power in the Clinton-Gore Years (St. Martin&#8217;s\/Palgrave, 2000): Those who forget past boondoggles will be perpetually taxed for new boondoggles.
