Britain Formally Proposes to Re-Institute Serfdom

This British proposal is one of the most audacious power grabs of this century:
The UK’s tax collection agency is putting forth a proposal that all employers send employee paychecks to the government, after which the government would deduct what it deems as the appropriate tax and pay the employees by bank transfer.
The CNBC article quotes a few critics of the proposal who quibble with whether such a takeover could be done efficiently.
How much hell will the British people raise over this attempt to turn them all into government dependents?

This is crazy. I wonder if Britons will put up with this tyranny.

I assume that this agency will get rebuffed. But the fact that they would float a trial balloon like this is stunning.

Yes but these Authoritarians have our best interests at heart and after all, there is that truism to the effect that “taxes are what we pay for the benefits of civilization”…ripping whot and all that sort of rot.

How much hell? As much damage as that bulldozer would suffer if I let it run straight over you.

Coming soon, I’m sure, to a nation near you.

And there is no William of Orange to ride to the rescue this time.

Did you write an editorial for the WSJ in 1984 to the effect that inflation was 4 percent and the Fed should ease up?

I’ve made some mistakes in my time but never had anything that halfwitted.
I’ve always been a ‘tight money’ kind of guy.
