So the Obama administration is moving forward with a plan to prosecute some CIA agents who went beyond the guidelines the Bush administration authorized for extreme interrogations. This is good news.
But will the torture policymakers be exempt from the law?
If so, maybe the pimp media will bring West Virginia’s Lynndie England, the star of the first round of Abu Ghraib court martials, back for an encore.
Many of the top officials in the Justice Department and the White House knowingly conspired to violate federal laws and the Geneva Convention. If the Justice Department refuses to look beyond the actual enforcers, then today’s apparent breakthrough will be simply another variation of a coverup.
The policy-makers who calmly sat down at their desks and did the bidding of the crazed ideologues who dreamed this system up will not likely be touched beyond a couple Aw shucks. They’ll likely prosecute some more officers of the line and characterize them as aberrant nutjobs who were too enthusiastic in their sadistic outlets….in contrast to the more sainted cold-calculating and maneuvering Bureaucrats who sanctified the continuing farrago.
I hope the political masterminds lose control of the narrative of this scandal. A few well-timed leaks… the “discovery” of the torture videotapes (supposedly destroyed)…
This scandal could still blow wide open.
But the government has gotten away with 98% of its bullshit so far, so…
What a coincidence that at the same time that Holder appoints a prosecutor to investigate CIA interrogations, Obama moves the nations interrogation/torture operations to the White House

I’m not sure what to make of it all, but I’m going to start waterboarding myself so I can get used to it.
