If only Toles had written the word DEMOCRACY onto the anvil, the cartoon would be perfect.

“Citizens should distrust politicians
who distrust freedom.”

This is a prime example of your standard Liberal/Socialist solution to a problem – LibSocs are congenitally unable to believe they could ever make a mistake, so any failure of a program can only be a result of insufficient resources, lack of dedication in implementation, or outright sabotage by someone.
And by “socialist” I mean any communitarian, Right or Left, not just the economic system.
A great cartoon, but I didn’t actually laugh until I read the little voice:
“Build a nation out of it”
I’m not even sure why I find that so terribly amusing.
For sure, that comment is a helluva lot more honest than what the Post usually prints about Afghanistan.
Hobbit, that means there’s a lot of socialists around.
Has someone told Glenn Beck about this?
I think it’s one of those human conditions that grows out of basic insecurity – if I’m part of a group and the group is doing it, then I can’t be wrong. It’s an appeal to laziness and greed as well. And since Mencken was right about the purpose of the State, that only increases the insecurity (and the State’s pretty good at appealing to laziness and greed as well).
So yep, there are a lot of socialists around. Maybe Brian can let Mr. Beck know about it…. 😀
