OK, so not everybody liked my story in yesterday’s USA Today (“Donald Trump’s budget slashes government junk food pipeline to the poor“). It is evoking a passionate response – including “Wretched, Regressive Drivel,” “heartless out of touch human being,” “a real cesspool,” “vile,” “Shame on USA Today… blatant disinformation,” “libertarian idiot,” “story is filled with so many untruths, it is insane,” “beyond contemptable [sic],” “immoral”..
Here are some of the testier comments I have seen online so far –
Mr. Bovard, you are a very bad man. It is obvious that you only want to deprive poor fat people of their free Moon Pies and Royal Crown Colas. If this happens, the American Dream is over!
Amazon is now delivering groceries to food stamp recipients in 5 states. Wonder what they are delivering….
I didn’t notice him making any attempt to deprive ME of food last time we met.
I would not be so unwise as to get between a burly Pennsylvanian and his brew.
I had to bring my own! On the other hand, you made me take a huge bag of pretzels as a Lovely Parting Gift…
I appreciated you stopping by – sending you out with pretzels was the least I could do. I would have preferred to give you a few hard cider bottles to drink on the road but federal tyranny (the 1980s Open Container ban) nixed that hospitality.
