As members of Congress engage in a virtue-signaling stampede towards further U.S. military intervention in the Ukraine-Russia war, here’s my caustic comments:
Politicians are most dangerous when they are parading as saviors of humanity.

Congress is untrustworthy on the Russia-Ukraine war. Remember that most members of Congress backed Iraq War but never bothered to read confidential CIA analysis that raised doubts on Iraqi WMDs

Members of Congress are notorious for passing thousand-page bills without reading them. Same know-nothing standard permeates the push for further U.S. military intervention in Ukraine-Russia war. Open the files on prior U.S. actions in Ukraine.

The form of government is less important than the sheer total power of the ruling class. Fighting wars to spread democracy creates an Elective Dictatorship at home.

The Constitution did contain a secret clause permitting politicians to drag the United States into a foreign war to temporarily boost the approval ratings of members of Congress

For most members of Congress, "due diligence" before taking the U.S. into another war consists solely of checking public opinion polls.

We can condemn Putin & Russian atrocities without pretending that the U.S. government has a magic wand – or a magic Air Force -that can bring peace & justice to any spot on the globe.

President Zelensky tells Congress: "Peace is more important than income." But U.S. aid helped turn Ukraine into one of the most corrupt nations in the world. Prior U.S. intervention did not help Ukrainian people https://t.co/C6Uc3FHeqK

There is no reason to expect Congress to show "due diligence" before pushing for further U.S. military intervention in Ukraine. No one on Capitol Hill is pushing to open U.S. govt. files on Ukraine before plunging in deeper.

Zelensky invokes Martin Luther King: “I have a dream." But Ukrainian govt. has long been a nightmare for the Ukrainian people, with corruption & oppression etc. causing loss of @ 20% of population since 1991.

The World War Three Caucus is alive and well on Capitol Hill https://t.co/illGapfrMI

"Pretending we know better"? McFaul was part of a U.S. govt. that kept almost all records of U.S. interventions in Ukraine etc. secret from the American people. Open the files so we can learn of previous U.S. blunders (or worse) in Ukraine https://t.co/xSYa1TBShQ

Forgotten history on Ukraine vs. Russia: in 1990s, U.S. govt. subverted both nations' exports with protectionist BS. My 1994 Journal of Commerce piece on Clinton's crackdown on Ukrainian wool coats pic.twitter.com/2k0zAwbYJs

“Peace is more important than income.” – Zelensky. Then why are you prolonging the war with Russia? You stupidly flirted with America in the furtherance of its goals of encircling Russia with weapons. Putin was very clear that he would not stand idly by while this happened; you blew him off. Now he’s making good on his vows. You can’t win against Russia; there’s no shame in this; it’s just a fact. Sue for peace and take the best terms they offer, if you really care about Ukrainian people. The longer you wait, the more will pointlessly die.
Yep. It is unfortunate that so many members of Congress and much of the American media sees this conflict as a morality play, rather than deadly carnage that will blight swaths of Ukraine long after the fighting ends.
