… at least temporarily.
The defeat of Joe Lieberman in the Democratic senate primary in Connecticut is good news for anyone who dislikes pious warmongers. Lieberman deserved to lose for many reasons – not the least of which was his assertion that Democrats are obliged to swallow Bush’s lies in the name of national security. In a speech last December 6, Lieberman declared, “It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be Commander-in-Chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine Presidential credibility at our nation’s peril. ”
Lieberman never spoke of the national peril created by presidential and Pentagon lies.
In honor of Lieberman’s loss, I downed a Samuel Adams tonight – the beer of patriots who scorn any and all apologists for kings and would-be kings. (Mind you, I’m not endorsing Sam Adams beer for all occasions. And admittedly, if the place I had stopped for dinner after biking had a better selection, I might have gone Deutsch.)
Hopefully other politicians who were lauded as brave heroes by the media for sending American boys to die in Iraq will meet the same fate as Lieberman. There has been damn little political accountability in this country for the last five years.
My friend, one thing you have to learn…it’s always a good time for beer!
I have more to learn about beer. If only I could get a federal Pell grant to fund my educational pursuits on this basic necessity of life…
It’s something a good deal stronger than beer that ol’ Joe will be tilting back tonight.
After seeing all the Marxist’s standing behind Ned Lamont at his victory speech, do you think the GOP voters will be lining up and voting Leiberman?
Ray – I doubt that Lieberman will get much support from the GOP.
I don’t like Marxists, but they are not fronting for carnage in the Middle East at this time.
Dennis – I don’t know what Lieberman might have consumed last night – but his Washington supporters deserve whatever hangover they have today.
Those were the Marx brothers, I think.
Jim, One of these days i am going to by you a beer, for all the times youve taught me about liberty. Cheers.
Steve – thanks! I look forward to quaffing a few beers while bantering on politics and other dire subjects.
I don’t know that you’ll be able to convince me about the Steelers, though.
