Bashing FEMA’s Train Wreck on the Brian Wilson Podcast

Brian Wilson and I chatted on his podcast today, talking about debacles by FEMA and other feds in responding to the Hurricane Helene damage in western North Carolina.

The New York Times did a stunning photography roundup of the devastation in North Carolina.   Get free access via my NYTimes subscription by clicking on this link.

We also took a few swings at the presidential race.  My recap of the 60 Minutes interview:   CBS Reporter:  ‘Gov. Walz, why did you lie about being in China at the time of the Tiananmen Square massacre?’

Walz:  ‘I rode my bike when I was 17 years old.’

In a later exchange with 60 Minutes, Walz exonerated himself: ‘I am not a pathological liar.’

That dude needs a better media coach.

On the VP, I commented, “Kamala Harris goes into a softball interview and then hits herself in the head when she swings at an easy pitch. She sometimes looks very fearful in interviews and her fear could be overwhelming her judgment at times.”

I commented on Biden’s debacle with the Trump debate in June: “It’s almost like presidents are  made incompetent by all the groveling  that goes on around them.  Same thing happened with a number of incumbent presidents. The first time that they did a debate when they’re running for reelection, President Obama got beaten by Romney in 2012, which is amazing, considering Romney’s dullness.  And Reagan got beat badly by Mondale the first time they debated in 1984.”

“Biden’s speech at the Democratic National Convention this year, aside from being full of rancor, was actually fairly solid. And it made a lot more points than Kamala Harris’s speech did.”

These remain cursed hard times for optimists.
