Osama Takedown: Biggest Crock of S**t Yet?

Biggest Crock of S**t Yet: “It’s Important to Remember that This was a Covert Operation,” sez Pentagon spokesdude, on the reason for withholding details on Osama’s “resistance” during Sunday’s takedown. Except for the BS the U.S. government shovels to make itself look heroic.

The quote is from this Wash. Post story.

Bill Ritter Don’t recall the poor unsuspecting victims in the Trade Center buildings being armed and ready either. Osama however, knew he was being hunted and should have been armed. Poor judgement on his part………………..what a shame……………

    Jim Bovard
What’s your level of confidence in the current version of the government account of the takedown?

    Bill Ritter
I always question, however if he wasn’t armed, I’m just not able to muster remorse, sorry, but yes, I’ve questioned forever. We as a nation are too fond of kool-aid I’m afraid.

Jim Bovard I have no remorse for Bin Laden. I am concerned when the government first insists that people must accept all the facts on blind faith – and then the government starts changing the facts. Will they change the DNA match next – from 99.9% to 79% – or what?

Bill Ritter I suppose we’ll just have to see as this unfolds.

Jim O’Connor Disbelieving which version of the government’s “facts” makes me a conspiracy theorist? If I don’t read the headlines minute-by-minute and get out of date with the current version I’m an enemy of the state.

Jim Bovard Bill, seeing how much the government has “amended” its story in the first 36 hours…. it is difficult to be sanguine about how its credibility will look a week from now.

Bill Ritter Yes Jim, I tend to side with your view of this. That burial at sea was a wee bit quick….

Bill Anderson The government is changing its story more times than did Crystal Mangum, the false accuser in the Duke Lacrosse Case! As they did with Mangum and prosecutor Mike Nifong, the media jumps to swallow the latest version of b.s.

Jim O’Connor Historians in 30 years will find out he was comatose in bed, in one of those humiliating hospital gowns without seats on them getting dialysis when the place was stormed and he was shot in the head. And if I’m still alive I won’t be terribly surprised by the news. Being a terrorist recruiter and strategizer doesn’t mean you live with a flak jacket on and an AK by your side every minute.

Jim O’Connor Bill — the current story has always been the story. It is your memory which is faulty.

Brian W. Ryman ‎”And Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia, has it not?”

Jim Bovard There are a number of details that seem almost designed to provoke doubts…. I would have loved to see the guy put on trial and see the feds present the evidence against him.

Victor Milán As I’ve said since the outset: the only thing certain is that the government is lying to us is some regard.

And that we still live in a broke police state, of course.

Bovard I am looking forward to the next Pew/Gallup survey on “trust in Government.”

Victor Milán ‎Jim Bovard – Umm … careful what you ask for. Remember what happened to the Taliban when *they* asked the US government to give them evidence against OBL.

Jim Bovard I’ll keep my eyes for Special Ops guys riding ponies in my neighborhood.

If those seals come for me (or my AK), I’m taking as many of them as I can. Fking cowards.

If looks were evidence, it looked like they had him under house arrest. Like Galileo.

More and more people envy the freedom the Pakistanis have. In Pakistan, the govt knows nothing about Pakistanis. The folks there are so insignificant.

Too bad the U.S. govt will destroy the ambience there (missionaryism ?).

@Tory II: “If looks were evidence, it looked like they had him under house arrest. Like Galileo.”

Yeah, it does look that way. I wonder if OBL’s last words were something like “…what the f–k, what are you doing, I did what you said, why are you shoo…”(bang)

A great Wikileaks inspired conspiracy theory unfolding here:

Obama isn’t a liar after all – he never said Osama wasn’t captured and executed:

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0511/After_not_during.html

I’m sure everything went down just as officials describe it, subject to future revisions to be be made as deemed necessary.

“…that the trail to Abbottabad was known to the US intelligence services at least since 2005…”

Yea. And they’re saying how important the waterboarding (back then) was for finding Bin Laden.

Bill O’Reilly is really celebrating. But this story is falling apart into a million pieces.

Someone should summarize the Wiki link here.

  8. Jim May 4, 2011 at 2:28 pm #

Tom, thanks for posting the link to the WikiLeaks column. Fascinating stuff!

Tory II – if you want to summarize the Counterpunch piece, fire away.

FAIR has a good bulletin out about how the media is touting the pro-torture line on the takedown – based on nothing but smoke and mirrors.

  9. Tory II May 4, 2011 at 2:32 pm #

I think Pakistan and other Middle East countries wanted desperately to hide their patriot and protect him.

    IMO, the Pakistanis hate Amerika.

  10. Tory II May 4, 2011 at 3:01 pm #

“Yeah, it does look that way. I wonder if OBL’s last words were something like “…what the f–k, what are you doing, I did what you said, why are you shoo…”(bang)” [alpowolf]

Wow. They could have silenced him, for any number of reasons.

Obama, like LBJ, escalated (or perpetuated) war.

  11. Jim May 4, 2011 at 3:06 pm #

And all those people in the White House ‘sit-ops’ room watched it go down. It would be fun to find a way to question each one of them separately to get their version of Obama’s final minutes.

  12. Tory II May 4, 2011 at 5:28 pm #

“Tory II – if you want to summarize the Counterpunch piece, fire away.” [Jim]

“Like a dreadful beast nurtured in the CIA secret labs, only once they reportedly rebelled against their merciless creator – on 9/11.”

I disagree. OBL may have died a long time back, but he has hated Amerika all along. Don’t forget, 1954 Iran, I doubt OBL ever forgot all the meddling since then.

I agree he received aid from the U.S. to fight the Russians. They may have helped kill Iraqi sects too.

My rule is this: when Middle East people are killed by Middle East people, it’s because they were collaborators. There will be racism there for a long time, but most of them hate the U.S. and real collaborators. OBL was never a U.S. collaborator, not even when he took weapons from the U.S.

OBL is a geniune Arab patriot, responsible for most attacks against the U.S. I bet the Iranians respect him too.

Conspiracy? Hardly. If you were a member of the War Economy Elite of your own tattered country and one of the principle rainmakers of your largesse was a crazed Yemeni with money ties to Arabia, would you turn him into the gullible Americans? Of course not. War is the racket that keeps on giving money to the various charlatans of every country we invade, while draining money and lives from our own country. Needless to say, the various modifications to this ongoing story should turn any mild mannered cynic into a raving malcontent.

The nation is run by liars, crooks and thieves, ivy-league educated ones in fact, perfect for an information age hyper collapse.

  14. Jim May 4, 2011 at 8:25 pm #

I will be curious to see how much cynicism is spurred by these continual revisions of the story. It is only a matter of time until prominent pundits remind us that the real danger is the Extremists who don’t believe the government.

  15. Dirk Sabin May 4, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

Extremists do not endanger the country, it has already been put at hazard by the lock-stepping Apparatchiks of American Exceptionalism and their tidy little bunko program of War and Security Profiteering. In brutal fact, the so called “extremists” are dutiful factotums for the War Economy xenophobes.

  16. Tory II May 5, 2011 at 3:27 am #

The bottom line is govt can’t be trusted to tell the truth, so we’ll never know the truth about OBL. The excuse ‘national security’ will force everyone to say nothing or end up like PFC Manning.

  17. alpowolf May 5, 2011 at 4:32 pm #

I almost wonder if there are all of these different versions of the story on purpose. Each faction of the statist crowd can select from the menu that which best serves them: e.g. the Obama-bots can crow that their C-in-C is decisive and ballsy, the neocons can crow that Bush’s torture chambers really are good for the country, etc.

  18. Jim May 5, 2011 at 5:34 pm #

Excellent point. It would be invaluable to have a WikiLeaks deluge now on all the memos and emails from the past 5 days as the Obama team decided which charades to peddle (and correct) at which times.

  19. Dirk Sabin May 5, 2011 at 7:53 pm #

I understand now that Osama was firing a vintage Maxim Machine Gun while wearing a Turkish Dervish Costume and singing War songs from the Maghreb. His Egyptian sidekick was out at Cruise Night in a 59 Electra with a modified gun turret and came back just in time to shoot down the stealth Copter while a chorus of 32 Virgins sang the Song to Saladin whilst astride elephants.

  20. Jim May 5, 2011 at 8:15 pm #

I always get nervous when more than a baker’s dozen of virgins congregate in one place.

    Thank Goodness for WikiLeaks: [Richmond]

Bush is a war criminal, but Sunday evening on 60 Minutes, Obama will tell us (with a bold face) all about how ObL was killed. I’ve already seen the preview; Obama is not the liar Bush is…but, maybe I’m wrong, he looks like he’s talking with a crooked face.

Obama doesn’t want to withdraw troops from the Middle East, but he’s telling us he will…

If anyone asked me, the military is in full swing pacifying Afghan cities, the way they did in Iraq.

Qaddafi is in hiding (or dead). ObL was just assasinated. Uprisings are occurring thru-out the Middle East. Mubarak is in trouble. After the Libya bombing, oil prices rose (Obama is an environmentalist).

Will Right-wing voters help Obama to another term. They’re angry at him for his BATF scandal aimed at rounding up support for more gun control. They tried to blame U.S. guns for the violence in Mexico (while the ATF encouraged U.S. gun exports to Mexico) ?

Obama wants to get re-elected ? If he wins, he’ll be in a strong position to sign antigun legislation if it gets to him. He’ll have nothing to lose.

This has been another rough week for the “Trust in Government” crowd.

  24. Dirk Sabin May 6, 2011 at 7:54 pm #

The “Trust in Government” crowd is advised to re-focus its attentions on weight-loss reality television where losses are to be celebrated.

  25. Jim May 6, 2011 at 8:08 pm #

The two “shows” tend to produce similar heaps.
