Great podcast! I had a friend who worked in the orange groves of Florida. He told me that there was a black man there who could pick three oranges with one hand. He had huge hands. One season the black man came back to the orange grove missing two fingers.
“What happened to your hand?” My friend asked.
“Got them shot off in a bar.”
“That’s bad luck, bummer.”
“Killt the man behind me.”
Whoa! That’s a bar I would avoid
Jim: There was a similar kinda bar south of our town, Healdsburg years ago. It was a simple concrete structure on Old Redwood Highway. The Mexicans hung out there on weekends. These were hard-working farm laborers from down south and they got drunk and boisterous. There were no windows in the place.
After the third shooting in this fine establishment, the county yanked the liquor license. The building has been sitting empty for years.
