This type of idolatry is enough to make even a non-Presbyterian cringe.

Maybe they’re all laughing because their playing with California IOU scrip.
Bingo! Great quip.
It’s the guy at the podium in the distant background. 😀
Actually, I think they are all orgasmic with glee as Abe tells them about the time he turned the presidency into a dictatorship, suspended the constitution, and killed a few hundred thousand rubes.
I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like. This painting would look great next to my painting of Hitler, Churchill, Stalin and FDR on black velvet.
That explains the weird grins.
As far as I can remember, neither Gerald Ford nor Ike committed any war crimes. Ford didn’t really have time and the soldier sort of knew better.
Gerald Ford signed off on Indonesia’s invasion of East Timor – which left @ a quarter million civilians dead. That is not the same level of culpability that Nixon had for ordering massive civilian bombing in Vietnam and Cambodia.
“I’ll see your bet of suspension of habeas corpus and raise you a trampled freedom of speech…”
“Ha! You call that a bet? Why don’t you wager something we value, like a military dictatorship?”
Jim,
I had a look at this “artist”, Andy Thomas, who did this piece. He’s your typical Warholian-type artist – but he’s definitely on the C or D list of that group. Apparently, he hasn’t employed an expensive enough image consultant yet!
But he definitely has the background, a la Jeff Koons. Thomas has a degree in marketing management.
Basically, he’s ready, willing, and barely able to reinforce and/or enhance any myth that puts cash in his pocket. But to be fair that describes a good deal of domestic artists, writers, journalists, and now whole newspapers (The Washington Post). But that’s not news (sic).
