I can’t believe how naive I was to think that we would soon have a downright cozy relationship with Russia once Trump was elected. The deep state won’t even allow him to talk to Putin. Too much is at stake. It looks like Russia is doomed to play the role of traditional enemy and boogeyman forever to justify high levels of defense spending, NATO, and scores of military outposts. The Romans had the Parthians and Germans and we have the Russians, Iranians, and Chinese not to mention anyone else who falls into disfavor.
Things have certainly been ugly so far. Let’s see how this plays out.
